Emissions Trading Verification
Pöyry Energy Oy is an accredited certification body for emissions trading verification S027 (EN 45011, ISO/IEC Guide 65). The qualification has been verified by the Finnish Accreditation Service, FINAS, which is part of the Centre for Metrology and Accreditation of Finland. Our qualifications cover CO2 verifications/measurements of the processes in combustion plants, works producing crude iron or steel and mills producing pulp, paper and board. Our competence of a verifier is excellent thanks to our long experience in environmental permit preparation, emission measurements, audits of measurement and energy systems and fuel-related technical questions. In addition, we are able to utilize the specialized process know-how our experts possess.
Verification phases
In the 1st phase (starting inspection) the verifier visits the plant and reviews plant-specific data collection and source material. On the basis of the visit the verifier reports any shortcomings and faults detected in the data collection system, which facilitates significantly the actual verification at the beginning of the following year.
In the 2nd phase the verifier checks the emission reports, their background calculations and critical factors, and if necessary, re-visits the plant. The emissions in the year under review will then be verified by the end of March in the following year.
Independence
We perform emission verifications independently and take into account the special nature of this operation. We verify only the emission sources in respect of which we are independent on company and individual level. The independence review shall always take place before starting the project.
