A key feature of the work carried out by the company is the importance attached to Site Licensing and Safety Justification as designs and proposals are formulated, thereby ensuring that potential difficulties emanating from the necessary approvals procedures are minimised or eliminated.

The Pöyry Energy business group has a full working knowledge of the requirements of AECP 1054, Ventilation of Radioactive Areas and AECP 59, Shielded and Ventilated Glove Boxes, for hands-on operation. In particular the company has:

• Staff who include Design Engineers and Consultants with many years experience in Nuclear Ventilation System Design who were involved in the development of the Codes of Practice.
• Undertaken studies to prepare facilities for long term care and maintenance including scheme design and technical specification or changes to the ventilation plant.
• Reviewed proposals and design principles for new plant requirements associated with Codes of Practice and Modern Standards.
• Undertaken a thorough examination of the ventilation and containment systems of facilities against the requirements of AECP 1054.
• Provided experts to analyse existing ventilation systems and containment envelopes against AECP 1054, to prepare a major facility for decommissioning including engineering design and analysis.
• Produced a Guidance Note, The Application of AECP 1054 to Redundant Facilities.
• Carried out an evaluation of the status of glove boxes against the dual requirements of AECP 1054 and AECP 59.
• Provided experts to advise on ventilation and plant improvements for nuclear research facilities.
• These skills complement our experience in safety and reliability, development of safety cases, waste management and engineering analysis.
• The Pöyry Energy business group therefore has the experience to advise operators and managers on filtration and ventilation matters against the requirements of Site Licence Conditions, Industry Codes of Practice and Modern Standards. Furthermore, through existing arrangements with quality manufacturers and installers of nuclear grade ventilation systems the Pöyry Energy business group can undertake turn-key contracts.
